A little place named Lietchenstien.
I have just returned from a little weekend trip. Let me tell you, I could definately get used to the European lifestyle.... jetting off to Lietchenstien for a nice relaxing weekend.
To get to Lietchenstein we had to fly to Friedrichsafen, Germany. From there you had to get a train through Germany, into Austria and into Switzerland. From Switzerland you get a bus into Lietchenstein. It was quiet a long process, although thankfully not very difficult.
Two of my flatmates, Amy and Eva were already there when Courtney (my other flatmate) and I joined them. We ended up going to this local pizzeria in the capital city of Vaduz on the first night there. The man who owned the restaurant didnt speak english. Luckily, he spoke Itailian and Eva is almost fluent in Itailan so there could understand eachother. It turned out that we had to wait 30 mins for a table. So we are just standing around and this man must have heard us talking because he came up to us and asked us if we were American. He was asking us where were from and everything. When I told him I was from New Hampshire, he mentioned that Bode Miller was New Hampshire. ((and in case some of you don't know who that is... Bode Miller is an olympic skiier from NH.)) I thought that was really wierd because none of my other flatmates knew who that was let alone someone from Lietchenstein. So he ends up giving us some reccomendations on places to go and things to do. Then he says that we should go to the ski museum. Apparently it is the only offically recognized ski museum in the world. Then he tells us that we would be able to see pictures of Bode Miller there. And then he adds, we would also be able to his skis and ski suite.
So it turns out that he is an Olympic skiier, who knows Bode Miller personally. Haha- can anyone say Random!!!!
The next day, we went to the post office there and bought post cards and stamps. Lietchenstein is famous for their stamps! And they are the number 1 exporter of dentures. At the post office I saw this pamphets there and then we realized that it was the man from last night- the skier. So that is how we found out his name and googled him. We actually found his offical website and send him an email thanking him for all the recommendations. Then he replied and actually sent me a picture of him and Bode Miller.
So now i am able to say that I met an Olympic skiier whilst in Lietchenstein. Not many other people can say that!
Later that day, we took a train to Zurich. That city was not at all what I expected. It was freezing cold there and I stupidly did not have a jacket.
Below is a link the my facebook photoalbum so you can see the majority of the pictures that I took on the trip.
I had an amazing time and I think that if you ever have the chance you should definately check out Lietchenstein. They isnt a ton to do but the scenery is beautiful and the people are super friendly!!
Much love,
Emily
